John Merrill (Jack) won SPIE Scholarship !

May 29, 2019 by shawn xiang

John Merrill (Jack), a PhD student in TRUE lab conducting research with Dr. Liangzhong Xiang, has been awarded an Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships are open to students located anywhere in the world who are studying optics, photonics, or related fields.

As a graduate student, this is Jack’s second scholarship awarded this year, previously having been awarded Stephenson Cancer Center Student Travel Award to attend the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) annual conference in San Antonio in July. Jack is currently working on developing proton-induced acoustic computed tomography, a novel biomedical imaging modality to improve radiotherpy.
