Dr. Xiang receives American Cancer Society Research Scholar Grant

February 12, 2020 by shawn xiang

Liangzhong (Shawn) Xiang, Ph.D., an assistant professor at University of Oklahoma, has received a four-year, $792,000 Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society awards Research Scholar Grants for promising research projects that may lead to the elimination of cancer as a major health problem. Recipients must be in the first six years of an independent research career or faculty appointment.

Dr. Xiang, who has been at OU since 2015, will use the grant to study how X-ray induced acoustic computed tomography (XACT) will applied for in vivo dosimetry during prostate radiotherapy.

“I’m very grateful to the American Cancer Society for supporting this research,” says Dr. Xiang. “ We expect XACT imaging can used to 1) localize the radiation beam and 2) estimate the in-line verify radiation dose in real time during prostate radiotherapy. ”
