Dr. Xiang won the OCAST Award!

Dr. Xiang and his collaborators have been selected for OCAST FY19 Competition Health Research Award !

Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology(OCAST) Health Research program funds basic research projects related to human health for one to three years. The awards enable researchers to gain the expertise and produce the data needed to obtain larger grants from federal agencies, private enterprises and non-profit funding organizations. All proposals are reviewed and ranked for funding by experienced health researchers who reside outside the state of Oklahoma.

John Merrill (Jack) won SPIE Scholarship !

John Merrill (Jack), a PhD student in TRUE lab conducting research with Dr. Liangzhong Xiang, has been awarded an Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships are open to students located anywhere in the world who are studying optics, photonics, or related fields.

As a graduate student, this is Jack’s second scholarship awarded this year, previously having been awarded Stephenson Cancer Center Student Travel Award to attend the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) annual conference in San Antonio in July. Jack is currently working on developing proton-induced acoustic computed tomography, a novel biomedical imaging modality to improve radiotherpy.

Dr. Xiang is organizing a session on 2019 AAPM Annual Meeting

Dr. Xiang is organizing a section with Dr. Flemming Forsberg from Thomas Jefferson University on Advanced Ultrasound Imaging in Clinical Applications . The workshop will be held on AAPM in 7/17 from 1:45 to 3:45 pm.

Dustin D. Arellano won the UROP award !

TRUE lab undergraduate student, Dustin D. Arellano was awarded the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program grant from Honors College at The University of Oklahoma. 

With the generous support of the Office of the Vice President of Research, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program offers financial assistance for scholarly and creative projects under the mentorship of a faculty member.

Siqi Wang Won Alumni and Foundation Recruitment Fellowship!

Siqi will be a Ph. D student in the School of Electric and Computer Engineering starting in Summer 2019.  He finished both his undergraduate and graduate study at The University of Oklahoma majoring electrical Engineering, and minoring Computer Science. He was awarded the Mentored Research Fund Award in Spring 2017.  Currently he is working on the development of XACT imaging system. He likes to stay updated with new technology trends, as well as doing hands on work with electronics. 

The Alumni and Foundation Recruitment Fellowship program, originally established by Graduate Dean Emeritus Lee Williams, provides Alumni and OU Foundation Fellowships to academic units to assist with recruitment of superior doctoral students. Awards will be chosen by a committee of graduate faculty members from a range of disciplines.

Pratik Won the 1st Place for the Three Minute Thesis Competition

Pratik Samant, Ph.D student in TRUE lab, won the 1st Place for the Three Minute Thesis Competition at OU. He will represent OU to compete in the 3MT® competition at the annual meeting of the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools on March 22. Go Pratik!
The competition challenges master’s and doctoral students to present their research in a compelling and engaging manner to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes, using one static presentation slide as their only prop. The students’ presentations were judged on comprehension, engagement, and communication.

Elijah Robertson Won The 2019 Regent’s Award for Outstanding Juniors

The 2019 Regent’s Award for Outstanding Juniors Selection Committee at OU met recently to make their recommendations for Outstanding Juniors to the OU Board of Regents. After much deliberation, the TRUE lab undergraduate research assistant, Elijah Robertson, were selected to receive this award. Congrats, Elijah !
